State of affairs in introduction, development and certification of the EMS in the russian enterprises

Only about 20 Russian industrial entities have been certified today according to the ISO 14000 family of international standards. The first among them was the ball-bearing plant in Vologda. Then it is JSC "Severstal", Cherepovets, Vologda region, where two Cleaner Production Programmes have been implemented since 1998. The work purposed to adopt and develop the EMS is meanwhile under way. So, "Avtovaz", "Russky aluminy", "Nizhnekamskneftekhim", the metallurgical mill in Novolipetsk, JSC "Petrozavodskmash", JSC "Izhorskie zavody" prepare themselves to be certified. Two latter enterprises took part in the Cleaner Production Programmes. As for the North-West region, as far back as 2001 four entities started elaboration and adoption of the ISO 14000 environmental management standards.
